On Monday, Nokia unveiled two new phones aimed at the business market in an attempt to create competition for RIM’s dominant Blackberry and Apple’s iPhone.   The world’s number one cell phone maker introduced the E66 (picture right) and E71, the company’s newest corporate-aimed smartphones to be shipped and available in July.   The E66 and E71 will begin retailing at around $538 without taxes and operator subsidies, putting it within the price market of the Blackberry Curve and iPhone, though slightly more expensive depending on the

model.   Although Nokia is the world’s dominant cell phone maker, selling about 40% of the global cell phone market, they are notorious for ignoring the corporate market in favor of consumer phones.   The company’s newest smartphones come nine months after their previous model, the E51, and right after Apple released its 3G iPhone. RIM’s Blackberry Curve was unveiled earlier this year.   The smartphone market is largely dominated by Blackberry, though the iPhone is gaining speed in catching up. Nokia hopes their newest phones will also create formidable competition.   "The business market is becoming increasingly competitive and highly segmented so these new products are critical new additions to Nokia's E series line up," said Geoff Blaber, an analyst at research firm CCS, in an interview with Msnbc.com.   The constant output of new models and upgrades that RIM, Apple, and Sony Ericsson pushed the company to create and release the E66 and E71.   "We will see a swathe of new products from RIM, Palm and a number of Windows Mobile licensees in the coming quarters so it was essential that Nokia strengthened its portfolio," said Blaber.   Nokia touts the E71 to be the world’s thinnest smartphone with a full QWERTY keyboard, though it may not be enough to make a large dent in the Blackberry and iPhone market.   By Danny Scuderi   FEEDBACK For comments on this article, email us at editorial@atelier-us.com
